Calm Returns

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

According to the latest information we have received, the government has succeeded in pacifying the rebellious soldiers, and life in the capital is gradually returning to normal.  Gas stations and shops are reopening.  People are resuming their daily routines.  Please continue to pray for peace in Guinea.

Keep Praying

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

The country is still in crisis.  Mutinous soldiers have taken over much of the capital.  They are making many demands, in particular for years of back pay.  As the government agrees to their demands they add new ones.  At this point, it is unclear what the outcome will be.  So far, they have been shooting in the air, pillaging stores and gas stations, and have even taken some of their commanders hostage.  Fortunately, we are about a seven hour drive from the capital, and our city has been completely peaceful.  You may read more in this article from the BBC:

Pray Now!

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Guinea is in urgent need of your prayers right now.  Once again, uncertainty has descended upon the country.  This past week, the president sacked the prime minister in violation of the peace agreement of 2007 and replaced him with one of his supporters.  We are waiting to see the reaction of the people.  Pray for peace in Guinea.  Pray for a speedy resolution of the situation.  Here are links to some articles where you can read about the situation in more detail:
